MEDIA ADVISORY WHAT: TYLER COUNTY SCHOOLS COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMATION WHEN: From August 27-30, 2021 CONTACT: Shane Highley, Superintendent, Tyler County Schools DETAILS: Tyler County Schools has confirmed 5 positive cases at SES involving students 2 cases involving staff, 2 positive cases at AIB involving students ,4 students at TCMS and 4 students at TCHS . After conducting the necessary investigations, it was determined that those affected have been quarantined and no additional action is necessary at this time. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, everyone is urged to follow best health practices as issued by the Governor’s Executive Orders and outlined by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) and the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) guidance. Masks Guidelines for after school events. Tyler County Schools August 23rd 2021 - All indoor sports spectators must wear a mask. - Players not actively participating in an indoor sport we ask that they wear a mask on the bench. - Any event that is held indoors, after school hours we ask that you wear a mask. * Please know that these guidelines are fluent, if we see a decrease in active cases in our schools we lessen these guidelines. We want everyone to get to come enjoy all of our events and at this time we feel this is the safest way to do so for our students.

This year, senior athletes will be given one banner for free, which will follow them from sport to sport. For each activity/sport, an icon will be placed on the banner - like a pin on a letterman's jacket. Fall sport senior pictures will be taken on Wednesday, August 18th in the library during 9th period. Seniors are asked to wear their favorite TCHS gear. Fall coaches, please send your rosters to Mrs. Potoczny ASAP.

Tyler County Schools are launching a new mobile app that helps students, parents, and community members know what is happening on campus, right from their phones. We know that families are using smartphones as a primary means to communicate. That’s why we’ve created an app that is custom-built for mobile. On the app, you can find documents, contact information for staff, and event information. You can download the app for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Promise Scholarship and needs-based Higher Education Grant Updates: To help students qualify for the merit-based Promise Scholarship and needs-based Higher Education Grant amid residual concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, our board met today and approved the following temporary changes For students in the high school graduating class of 2021: The standardized testing deadline to qualify for the Promise Scholarship has been extended from August 2021 to October 2021. Colleges and universities statewide are continuing to offer free ACT On-Campus exams; dates and times are posted at wvhepc.edu/act-on-campus-exams/. For students in the high school graduating classes of 2021 and 2022: These students will now qualify for super-scoring to achieve the minimum standardized testing scores necessary to qualify for the Promise Scholarship. This allows students to take their top scores from sub-sections of different ACT or SAT tests they’ve taken and combine them for a higher overall score. For students in the high school graduating class of 2021 receiving the Promise Scholarship for the first time in 2021-22, the test score requirements have been lowered as follows: ACT composite score – 21 (regularly 22); ACT English score – 19 (regularly 20); ACT Reading score – 19 (regularly 20); ACT Science score – 19 (regularly 20); ACT Math score – 19 (regularly 20). SAT composite score – 1080 (regularly 1100); SAT Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing score – 510 (regularly 530); SAT Math score – 510 (regularly 520). For students who received either the Higher Education Grant or the Promise Scholarship for 2020-21 and are renewing it for the 2021-22 award year: The grade point average required for renewal is waived for this upcoming award year only.
