The fifth-grade students in Miss Roberts class at SES learned that the Statue of Liberty was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. They also learned that the Statue of Liberty is made of copper and was the color of a penny when it was first built. They used what they have been studying in science to explain that a chemical change called oxidation turned the Statue of Liberty green. They completed an experiment that showed how vinegar and salt will clean the green pennies back to their original shiny bronze.

A neat thing happening at AIB… every day at 10 the fair grounds plays the national anthem. Mrs. Myers takes her 5th grade class out every day for a mask break at that time because they want to hear it. She invited the school to join today to kick off Celebrate Freedon Week.

WVDE has replaced Captive Portal with GoGuardian. This will provide better insights on student browsing and simplifies Internet access on school devices. This transition process requires students to open the GoGuardian app on their iPad and wait momentarily until the screen says Hurray! If your student cannot connect to GoGuardian, please fill out the Help Desk form. Many of these connectivity issues will work themselves out over the next few days as the data settles. Thank you for your patience.
