Superintendent's Corner

Letter from the Superintendent:

Dear Tyler County Students, Staff, and Families,

As we embark on a new school year, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to each and every one of you. Whether you are a returning student or new to our district, a seasoned educator or just beginning your journey with us, this year holds endless possibilities.

Our schools are places where curiosity thrives, dreams are nurtured, and potential is realized. We are committed to fostering an environment where every student feels valued, every staff member feels supported, and every family feels connected. Together, we will continue to build a community where learning is not just about academics but also about personal growth, creativity, and resilience.

To our students: I encourage you to approach this year with excitement and determination. Embrace the opportunities to learn, to grow, and to make a positive impact in your school and beyond. You write your story.

To our dedicated staff: Your passion, creativity, and commitment are the foundation of our success. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students and your tireless efforts to inspire and educate. Remember, take care of kids.

As we move forward together, let's keep our minds open, our spirits strong, and our hearts full of compassion. I am confident that, united, we will achieve great things this year.

Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling school year ahead!

Character Counts 9/3/24

We are excited to share that all Tyler County Schools will be implementing the Character Counts Program this academic year. This program is designed to foster a positive school environment and encourage students to develop strong character traits that will benefit them both in and out of the classroom.

What is the Character Counts Program?

Character Counts is a widely recognized program that focuses on six core values, known as the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. Through this program, students will learn about these values and how to apply them in their daily lives, helping them become responsible, respectful, and ethical individuals.

How will it be implemented?

·         Curriculum Integration: Teachers will incorporate lessons and activities related to the Six Pillars of Character into the regular curriculum. This ensures that character education is a part of students’ everyday learning experiences.

·         School-Wide Initiatives: Throughout the year, we will have school-wide events and projects that highlight and promote the importance of character. These might include assemblies, guest speakers, and community service projects.

·         Recognition: To encourage and reward good character, we will be recognizing students who consistently demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character. This recognition may come in various forms, such as certificates, special privileges, or shout-outs during announcements.

How Can You Support the Character Counts Program?

·         Reinforce at Home: Talk to your child about the Six Pillars of Character and encourage them to practice these values at home. Simple discussions about trust, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship can go a long way.

·         Model Positive Behavior: Children learn a great deal by observing the adults in their lives. Demonstrating good character through your actions is one of the best ways to teach these values.

·         Get Involved: Participate in school activities and events related to the Character Counts Program. Your involvement shows your child that you value character education and support their development.

We believe that the Character Counts Program will help create a positive and supportive environment in our schools, benefiting students, teachers, and the entire Tyler County community. If you have any questions about the program or would like to learn more about how you can get involved, please feel free to contact your child’s school.

Thank you for your continued support!

Study Habits and Sleep 9/16/24

I hope this message finds you well. As we progress through the school year, I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of two critical components to academic success: a good night's sleep and healthy study habits.

Research consistently shows that students who get enough sleep each night perform better academically, have better focus, and maintain a positive outlook. A well-rested mind is more equipped to absorb new information, solve problems, and engage in creative thinking. I encourage students to aim for 8–10 hours of sleep each night, and to establish a calming bedtime routine to wind down from the day’s activities.

Equally important are productive study habits. Effective time management, active learning, and consistent review of material not only reduce the stress of last-minute cramming but also lead to deeper understanding and long-term retention. Encourage your student to create a dedicated study space, break larger tasks into smaller, manageable parts, and take regular breaks to stay fresh and focused.

By balancing proper rest with structured study routines, we are setting ourselves up for success both in and out of the classroom.

Thank you for your continued commitment to your education and well-being.

Cook Center Resources 10/2/24

The Cook Center for Human Connection has partnered with Tyler County Schools to provide support and resources for mental health and emotional well-being for students and their families. This collaboration aims to address the growing need for mental health awareness and access to services within the school community. Here’s what parents need to know about this partnership:

1. Free Mental Health Resources

  • Through the partnership, parents and students have access to a wide range of mental health resources, including videos, guides, and expert advice on handling various mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and stress.

2. ParentGuidance.org

  • The Cook Center provides access to ParentGuidance.org, a platform that offers free virtual mental health services and resources. Parents can watch educational courses, connect with professional therapists, and find solutions to challenges their children may be facing.

3. Confidential Support

  • The services provided are completely confidential. Whether students or parents need help with a particular issue, the resources are designed to be private and easily accessible without the fear of judgment.

4. Virtual Therapy Sessions

  • Through the platform, families can schedule virtual therapy sessions with licensed therapists. This can be a huge help for families who need professional support but may face barriers like time constraints or access to in-person therapy.

5. Workshops and Webinars

  • The Cook Center partnership includes webinars and workshops tailored to help parents better understand and support their child’s emotional and mental health. These educational sessions cover topics such as resilience, coping strategies, and positive parenting techniques.

6. 24/7 Access

  • The resources are available 24/7, so families can get help whenever they need it, providing flexibility to work around busy schedules.

7. Goal

  • The primary goal of this partnership is to empower parents with tools to support their children’s mental health, improve communication within families, and foster emotional resilience in students.

For more information on accessing these services, please visit the Tyler County Schools website or contact your child’s school counselor.
