In partnership with WVU STEAM TAC, students in Mrs. Wright’s classes participated in a lesson today that introduces students to the science behind solar power and its application in solar farms and energy grids. Using Snap Circuits, students explored how solar panels collect energy and how that energy can be stored in batteries for later use, just like in real-world systems. They investigated key electricity concepts, such as voltage, current, and resistance, gaining hands-on experience with how solar energy is converted into usable power.

Reminder: Tomorrow is Silver and Black Friday!

Mrs. Dunham's Gardening Club used the LeafSnap app to identify flowers, shrubs, and trees around the school grounds. Students photographed leaves with the app, which provided the plant names and some interesting facts, making learning interactive and engaging. They worked together while comparing app results with actual plant features. The activity boosted students' observation and critical thinking skills.

-Animated Drawing Club
-PLTW - Design and Modeling
-Gardening Club
-Art Journaling
-Klub Karaoke
-Yearbook Club
-Guitar Club
-Board Games

TCMS Community: Here's what's happening at Tyler Consolidated Middle School during the month of October 2025!

Students in Mr. Emch’s and Mrs. Wright’s DYF classes got to see the ins and outs of the eSports lab here at TCMS/HS. Huge thanks to Mr. Hensley for meeting with our students to share his knowledge of mobile, PC, and console systems and games, as students are beginning their exploration through the Information Technology career cluster.

Trikes, Goggles and Giggles: Mr. Weber’s health class gets a hands-on lesson in the dangers of impaired driving.

TCMS Parents/Guardians: Today marks the midterm of our first nine-week grading period, which ends on Friday, October 24. We encourage all parents and guardians to check their child’s grades on the WVEIS Parent Portal to stay informed about their progress.
If your child has a deficient grade, please call the school at 304-758-9000 to speak with their teacher for support.
If you need help accessing the Parent Portal, we’re happy to assist. Please remember you must have a valid email on file with the school to gain access.
Parent Portal instructions are attached for your convenience.

Mr. Maiden’s TASK students are preparing for the WVU College of Engineering Annual Pumpkin Drop competition. In this event, teams design protective pumpkin packages and drop them from the roof of the 11-story Engineering Sciences Building at WVU.
The Annual Pumpkin Drop will take place on Friday, October 31, at 8:30 AM.
We’re proud to see our students apply real-world engineering skills and creativity in this exciting challenge. #KnightsPride

We are excited to share that the new gym expansion in the back of the school will now be utilized for entry to all middle school athletic events.
Please note: the entryway at the top of the middle school stairs will no longer be open for events. All spectators should use the designated entrance in the back of the school for gym access.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of our student-athletes. #KnightsPride

Mrs. Weekley's Design and Modeling Project Lead the Way class has already done so much this semester! They have created a prototype of a foot ankle orthosis for a client with cerebal palsy, learned some architectural drawing techniques, and used a drawing to construct a floor skimmer. They also used measurements from the floor skimmers to do some data analysis.
This is the first year we have offered this class and so far teacher and students are enjoying it!

The last few weeks, Mrs. Moore's 7th grade social studies have been learning about the different types of government. Today, to end this unit, students worked in small groups to build models that represent various government systems like democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, and more. By assigning roles to the gummy bears and designing creative layouts, they were able to visualize how power and decision-making work in each system.
This hands-on activity helped turn a complex topic into something tangible and memorable! Check out the photos to see their creativity in action!

Students in Mr. Emch's first period ELA 8 class completed a "trial" based on the story "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl. Students were each given roles and collaborated to determine if the main character, Mary, was guilty. The students demonstrated the ability to cite textual evidence, speak clearly, and look deeper into the text to support their claims and ultimately determine Mary's fate.
